Graduating students and top performers march in La Paz parade
August 4, 2009 -- Kaya's children currently attending high school were asked to march in La Paz's annual independence celebration parade. Four of the students marching were asked to carry the school's flags because they had the highest grades in their class. Additionally, Kaya had four graduating students asked to march with a cohort of seniors from the high school. Many city officials were in attendence along with most of La Paz's high schools. Kaya's younger children were also there to cheer on the older kids.
Dramatic finish at soccer match
July 30, 2009 -- After a long day at school and the Kaya center, the boys at Kaya Children were able to unwind with one of their regular games of soccer against another school team, organized by a social worker in the Bolivian office. The boys were excited to play and looked professional in their new uniforms. They exhibited fantastic teamwork, making spectacular passes and rotating people in so everyone had a chance to play. Those who were not playing stood on the sidelines cheering on their fellow teammates.

Volunteer teaches graphic design to former street children
Feb. 9, 2009 -- Austrian-Australian Dimitri Stangl recently spent a month volunteering with Kaya in La Paz, Bolivia. A graphic artist by training, Dimitri was able to provide some much needed support by teaching some basic design skills to a staff member and creating promotional materials to be used in Bolivia. Dimitri also did some graphic design projects with some of the children. Click here to see some of the results of their work.
New name for the Bolivian Street Children Project
Sept. 18, 2008 -- The Bolivian Street Children Project officially changed its name to Kaya Children International. While this may have seemed rather sudden to some, a name change had been on the horizon for a long time as we looked for a way to express who we are as an organization and our desire to expand internationally. We felt the time was ripe as we moved out from under an umbrella organization in La Paz to become an independent non-governmental organization (NGO), and as our network of partners expanded on a global scale.
"When Invisible Children Sing" translated into Mandarin
Sept. 10, 2007 -- When Invisible Children Sing, Dr. Chi Huang’s book describing his first experiences working with children on the streets in Bolivia, was translated into Mandarin. The book has been a very effective advocacy tool for Kaya Children International and having a Mandarin version extends its reach to new audiences.
