Graduating students and top performers march in La Paz parade

August 4, 2009 -- Kaya's children currently attending high school were asked to march in La Paz's annual independence celebration parade. Four of the students marching were asked to carry the school's flags because they had the highest grades in their class. Additionally, Kaya had four graduating students asked to march with a cohort of seniors from the high school. Many city officials were in attendence along with most of La Paz's high schools.  Kaya's younger children were also there to cheer on the older kids.

In many ways this parade demonstrates how successful Kaya's programs have been. All of the former street children asked to participate have become young men with a bright future. The four graduating seniors will be the first Kaya children to begin a transition to adulthood and all of them will be going to college. In a country where roughly 10% of the population has any post secondary education, this is an outstanding achievement for these boys.
