Mission Statement

Kaya Children International is a Christian organization securing and promoting social justice for children on the streets in order to help them reach their potential and fulfill God’s unique plan for their lives. Kaya serves children living on the street and children at extremely high risk of entering street life in La Paz, Bolivia, by returning them to safety, rebuilding their childhoods, restoring their dignity, and giving them hope for the future through holistic service in a safe, loving, family environment.

Vision

While we work to meet the immediate needs of children living on or near the streets, Kaya serves as a part of a larger effort working towards a future where no child calls the streets home.

Core Values

  • Incarnational – Kaya maintains an active presence engaging and serving street children in their environment. Embodying God’s unconditional love, Kaya promotes transformational relationships at every level of transition.
  • Individuality – Kaya works with individual children and our measure of success is unique to each child and appropriate to that child's stage in life. In some cases, succes may invole re-integration into the family of origin or the larger community, securing employment, entering trade school, or pursuing higher education. Kaya is committed to serving the “hardest cases”. Our programs remain dynamic and responsive to the children we encounter.
  • Partnership – As a part of a larger effort to address child homelessness, we work towards solving systemic problems that lead children to enter street life. We work collaboratively with others for direct intervention (legal, social, and religious), ongoing care (school, church, governmental, and organizational partnerships), and long-term prevention strategies.
  • Societal Accountability – A future where no child calls the street home is only possible when society adapts to respond to the needs of these children. Working with churches and other organizations, Kaya seeks to promote social justice and societal accountability in regards to the welfare of all children everywhere.
